After looking over the league recently i've begun to see the reason for the near implosion of Duff after season 1.
The sheer volume of greatly unbalanced trades leads me to question if the owners in this league truly care or not.
There was a serious issue with the culture of the world in previous seasons. So much so that a change in commish's we required. But now all those in support of the move have seemingly either forgotten what they demanded be done or choose to hide behind the notion that a trade between veterans is automatically ok.
What you have right now is a severe hierarchy of tiers in relation to quality of franchises.
The best are always on top, the middle of the bunch is always seen but not heard and the bottom crust always stays as such.
This makes it extremely taxing season after season to try and convince potential owners that the world is on the rise when the owners don't care.
You ask for a quick turnaround, you want to be upper echelon and yet the work you put into the world is "Well i accepted the trade because it was offered to me."
If this world is to be become anything other than it is then all 32 owners have a responsibility to make sure the world is balanced. That it's fair, and that the gap between isn't so great that you almost have to pay someone to join.
This is not MLB, this is not a UEFA and this is not a pro sport. The weak excuse that if it was in real life does not matter. It does not factor in and it's pathetic.
If the current trend on "I don't care.". "It's not my team.", "Just let it go." type of attitudes continue then the future of this world is one of two choices. Merger or Demise.

End of Month Power Poll
Exactly one month into Season Five of DBBL, we've decided to add a new feature to the blog... a monthly power poll. Here is a rundown of the teams from 1-32, as they rank so far.
The Fine Fifteen...
1. Richmond (20-8): The 2x defending champs feature a complete attack, ranking top-10 in OPS, fielding percentage, and team ERA.
2. Pittsburgh (18-10): In a surprise move, the Steelmakers have traded top slugger Nick Bonds. It also appears that Matty Baez and his $20 million contract have been relegated to a bench roll.
3. Minnesota (17-10): The Baggies a svelte 3.38 team ERA and a well-balanced offense.
4. Texas (17-10): The already dangerous offense gets a huge boost with the addition of Bonds.
5. Portland (17-10): The offense has been off to a slow start, but the pitching is stellar as usual.
6. Memphis (16-11): Led by a tandem of young stars, Jesus Camacho and Cesar Figueroa.
7. Scranton (16-11): Kordell Moss has been virtually un-hittable in his first 7 starts.
8. Durham (16-11): With standout players entrenched at SS and CF, Durham was able to cash in and trade superstar Rob Tankersley. Will they miss his bat?
9. Scottsdale (14-14): Despite the slow start, the Redlegs have a strong balance of pitching and hitting.
10. Chicago (16-11): The Hawks have a very good nucleus of young players, but do not have a bona fide top-of-the-rotation starter on the ML roster.
11. Little Rock (16-11): 2nd baseman Alvin Ross is off to a red-hot start (.323/.378/.606).
12. Colorado Springs (15-12): The Starrs will be carried by their pitching depth this season.
13. San Diego (15-13): The Figs have a few week spots in their lineup, but have decent pitching and play very good defense.
14. St. Louis (13-14): The Red Ravens have an excellent group of young hitters, but are thin in the rotation after their ace, Coco Garcia.
15. Charlotte (14-13): The club is anchored by young stud Kerry Campbell, who is averaging a strikeout per inning through 6 starts.
The best of the rest...

Controversial Trade Agreement Reached
Breaking news ---- This just in to our DBDN studios.
League sources confirm that a trade agreement has been reached between the Minnesota Baggies and the Cincinnati Boneless Chickens.
Uber stud prospect Steven Kelly and his future all-star potential goes to the Baggies in a 5 player deal featuring he and George Hume going to Minnesota for A.J. Parker,Rocky Henry,Mariano Barrios and Ron Morton
The deal has sparked some harsh criticism with one NL GM stating "This is a bad deal for league balance. The Lakers-Grizzlies deal for Gasol was a win for the Grizz compared to this."
The deal is pending league approval of contracts and player physicals.

Bitter Rivalry Brewing
There was rumor going around Duff these days is that there is a war of words taking place between 2 AL clubs.
We can now confirm that it is indeed true. The tiff is purported to be over American League Supremacy.
The team owners in question are St. Louis Red Ravens owner Deaconsoule and Memphis Screaming Mimes owner Cincysteve.
A heated exchange took place when after Deaconsoule commented on how likely he thought it was for his team to win the WS. Cincysteve apparently intoxicated on by proclaiming "You would be wise to save your prospects deac. Wouldn't want to see you trade away your future since this is my year." Futher harse words ensued and security had to seperate the two owners.
While being escorted out of the building opposite the direction of the drunken Memphis owner. Deaconsoule was heard saying "That team is full of a bunch of minor league prima donna's, we'll kick their ass like Ali vs Terrell"
The quote refering to an opponent Muhammed Ali fought in 1967 made famous for the brutality Ali showed by beating Terrell down for 15 rounds but purposely never finishing him off. Even demanding to Terrell "What's my name?" Afterwards leaving Terrell's face reduced to a bloody pulp with his eyes swollen shut.
The two teams will square off ten times this season including 2 early season series. Both owners have reportedly vowed to destroy the other this season. So get your popcorn ready folks. Cause this is going to be one hell of a show.
And maybe the rivalry Duff had been sorely lacking.

Texas Trades Ted Howard To The Red Ravens
Breaking news --- This just in to our DBDN studios.
As we informed you our viewers earlier in the day. The Red Ravens and the Heat were discussing a deal for All-Star Ted Howard. Sources told us that talks were in the preliminary stages could heat up. Well not only did they heat up quickly but they reached a boiling point. To that effect a agreement has been reached to send Howard to St. Louis.
The parameters of the deal so far as this.
St. Louis trades #2 prospect Max Gonzales, #4 prospect Robb Hamilton and Bernie Tavares to receive Ted Howard from Texas.
This is of course pending physicals by all players involved as well as league approval of all player contracts.
The Red Ravens are expected to attempt to work out a long term contract extension will Howard as they further overhaul their franchise after a lackluster finish to last season.

The Hot Stove Is Back
The Duff Beer hot stove heats up yet again.
After a flurry of big free agent signings as well as some very big trades.
A lull in the action had occurred. But now league sources have confirmed that there is a big potential deal being discussed. According to our sources the St. Louis Red Ravens have entered into trade talks with the Texas Heat about Ted Howard.
The 4 time allstar is currently making almost 9 million this season and is not expected to factor into the long term future of the heat. The talks are said to be focused around a package of prospects and potentially a young ML'er. The talks are in the preliminary stages but could heat up quickly should the heat like the offer.

Offseason Hot Stove Report #7
The Buffalo Crusaders have placed staff ace Cedrick Lee on the trade block.
They are expected to field offers for the pitcher until arbitration time. Should a team offer the right package for the player the team would be inclined to move him. But it should be noted that they are not set on moving him just to move him.
Interest is expected to pick up heavily over the next 24 hours and a deal could potentially be struck.
Offseason Hot Stove Report #6
News and notes.
The Scottsdale Redlegs have placed Les Shannon on the trade block seeking to move his salary.
They will also look to be active in the offseason. They plan an aggressive approach to add several needs such as SP and bullpen additions.
The Kansas City Tequila Drinkin Barflies appear intent on trading air for valuable players this offseason. "They plan to make huge additions but put all their valuable assets as untouchable." One AL GM said on the condition of anonymity.
The Mexico City Sombreros are very close to having a fire sale on their franchise. Their primary focus seems to be in the outfield but they will look to improve in all facets.
The Memphis Screaming Mimes have placed Cesar Figureoa on the trade block. "Figs" has his sights set on a big pay raise this season. The team is making the arbitration eligible youngster available for the right price. Several teams have expressed interest in the firebrander but only time will tell who strikes gold.
The Honolulu Sun Gods are seeking to use all avenues to bring in some players to shore up a very leaky bullpen.
The Charlotte Orange Crush have placed feelers out to several teams as they attempt to bring in a star SS to shore up their middling infield.
The Texas Heat plan to scale back salaries and age this offseason as they plan to deal off some pieces for youth. The target is pitching and prospects.
The Pittsburgh Steel Makers 2 have made it know they are willing to do some wheeling and dealing this offseason. They have placed a price on every player's head and if it is met they will be sent packing.
The Colorado Springs Starrs are looking to upgrade their porous infield by adding a SS and a 3B.
The Chicago Hawks have made it known that they are willing to deal any of their hitters for a top end SP.

Offseason Hot Stove Report #5
Breaking news --- A source just revealed to our DBDN studios that trade talks to move Ryan Leonard have stalled.
The two organizations were close to a deal for some time. But talks had stalled after the other team balked at including a key player in the deal. Talks resumed after it was asked that the Red Ravens return to the table for more discussions.
But talks now appear to be over with and a deal that was once potentially imminent is now dead.

HBD For Newbies
So now you've joined your first league. But your not sure what to do. Here are a few steps to help you along the way.
Once the world completely fills and the commish pushes the button to approve owners.
1.Take a look at your team and give it a preliminary once over.
2.You should take a look at your league's schedule(this is normally posted within 12 hours of the world filling.
3.Take a look at your budget. Examine it closely but do not set it quite yet. Pay very close attention to current payroll, arbitration, returning coaches demands, free agent demands and the eventual payroll total.(using these as tools will help you properly set your budget.)
Example Budget
4.Check out the free agents for your team(GM's Office>Contracts>Free Agent Report>"Your team name">"Current season"). Determine if this is a player you would like to keep or one you would like to let walk away. Do the same with your arbitration cases. This will help avoid having a 105 million payroll when you might only spend 55 million on player salary.
5.View your current draft slot. Determine if you will be active in the draft process or will choose to chase free agents(causing you to like lose your top draft choice under #16 pick). A higher draft selection will cost more prospect payroll money than a lower one. #1 draft pick on average if signing for slot will demand atleast 4 million.
6.Check out how many of your coaches want to return and for how much. A good rule of thumb for budgeting properly is by how many ML coaches choose to return and what position. On average a budget of 12 million is a solid selection. If you have to hire a bench, pitching or fielding coach you should likely boost your budget a bit higher to ensure getting a quality coach in case of a bidding war.
7.Once you have cultivated a plan for the upcoming season. You are now ready to set your budget. Remember the 105 million dollar player payroll is not set in stone. it adjusts as you tweak your budget(prospect, medical and etc.)
After setting Your Budget
8.When projections come out. Check out your entire organization's projections. GM's office>Player development>Development report>"Level:All">"Pos:All". Sort the players by the "Projection" column.
9.Learn how to determine useful ratings. There are just as many "phantom rated" 85 overall projected/current ratings players as there are true stud players.
Learn to decipher the core value ratings. Hitters: Contact, Power, Versus right/left(splits), Batting eye, Baserunning, Push/pull, Health, Durability, Speed and Makeup.
Pitchers: Stamina, Control, Versus right/left(splits), Velocity, Groundball/Flyball, Pitch quality, Durability, Speed and Makeup.
10.Before trading make sure you are getting a good deal. Do not trade for the sake of making a trade. Use it as a tool to improve your team either in the long-term or short-term. By knowing what you have, what you are sending away and what you are bringing back in return can help avoid making severe mistakes that can cripple a franchise.
12.Use everything you have learned to improve your team in free agency(or through trading).
Sign the coaches you will need to be successful in the upcoming season. Go through the arbitration process(if you do not wish to keep the player trade him away or release him before the PM2 cycle of "Arbitration Hearings, End / Rehire Coaches, End". This is the only time you can release a player without facing the penalty of "eating" the rest of his contract. Free agency is sometimes a beast of a process. Do not sign a bloated 5 year 100 million dollar contract just to sign a free agent. It is just as important to have payroll flexibility in the future as it is to sign a splashy free agent now who you might regret later.
13.Pay very close attention to the players with the red diamond(rule 5 symbol) next to their name. You have 7 days from the point budgets are being set to determine if those are players you wish to protect from the draft. If the player is a key to your future then you must protect him by adding him to the 40 man roster. This will start his options clock(affecting how many times you can demote him without being forced to waive him first.) Once the rule 5 roster freeze is in effect you cannot make any roster moves and any trades that would go through on the day of the rule 5 draft are pushed back a day.
14.Set your spring training squads. Managers office>Player settings>Spring training squads.
Invite all your team prospects, invite some fodder type players to use to protect against overuse and injury.
15.Prepare for the regular season. Promote players to appropriate levels to fill needs and ensure there are no fatigue issues and no repeated years at the same level(some prospects will retire if they stay at the same level for 2 or more seasons)
If you have changed any player settings such as pitch counts then be sure to change them to required levels for the season. Also reset your lineups if you have cycled through your ST squads to give prospects and fodder AB's to avoid injuries.(20-25 AB's and 12-15 innings(SP/LR) for your ML players are generally enough to help season them.) Figure out the final managers settings you want to use.
16.Check the schedule periodically for Amateur draft prep, Amateur draft & trade deadline. To ensure your franchise is taken care of.
16.Sit back, relax and enjoy your first season. There will be ups, downs, injuries & celebrations.
Such is HBD. The love to hate it game.

Offseason Hot Stove Report #4
League sources have informed DBDN that the Boston Massacre organization is readily making
Available for trade on the market. The reasoning behind the move is said to be a direct relation to the rapid progress of Kordell Morandini.
Even though they are going to actively shop him and pursue getting a deal done. The source let it be known that Osuna will command a hefty return for the team to move him.

Offseason Hot Stove Report #3
According to several sources with knowledge of the situation. The St. Louis Red Ravens are expected to be very active in this years offseason.
They could possess as much as 35 million in payroll to spend. They own the #13 pick in the draft and are expected to receive up to 4 compensatory selections in the upcoming amateur draft.
The sources noted that the team intends to pursue every avenue for improving the team after a disappointing season 4 finish. We're told that offense will be the main focus with the SS position as well as catch being the primary targets.
One source was quoted as saying off the record. "If you thought the Steinbrenner's spent money: You might get a lesson in why baseball needs a cap after this."

More News Coming In
Another interesting nugget of information that just came into our studios.
The Chicago Hawks are expected to begin shopping allstar slugger
sometime beginning this week as sources close to the team have informed us.
Should this occur we believe that up 20 teams could express interest in acquiring his services.
He is arbitration eligible which could speed up the timing of a trade. But several team would be interested should he be widely made available. One could expect the compensation to be a very good package of prospects

Breaking news --- This just in to the DBDN studios.
A league source has revealed to us that a deal is currently in the works to send SP Ryan Leonard to an unspecified team for a elite prospect or a package of top tier.
